Introducing Dominique "The Written Willow! 

Dominique  is an exceptionally talented and gifted poet, with remarkable passion and determination to make impactful strides in the world through her craft and this is very obvious in her zeal and her consistency in the world of Literature, specifically poetry speaks for itself. Her relatable and soulful style of writing is exactly why Dominique is now here on the most prestigious Poetry platform in the world. 

Today, we take a  foray into the world of Dominique with excerpts below detailing her incredible story. 

" I was born in Southern California and have lived just about everywhere in the valley. Growing up, I often ventured to New York to visit family, as the majority of my father’s side resides there. My world turned upside down when my mother passed away when I was 9 years old. My father worked double shifts to keep us afloat, leaving my younger brother and I to rely on each other for support.

When I was 17 turning 18, my brother was diagnosed with a psychiatric condition that shattered us all. Shortly after, my father passed away in 2015, so I unquestionably took over the guardianship of my brother. It’s been a tough journey, but he is currently doing much better and I am incredibly proud of him. The loss of my father and the challenges with my brother’s condition plunged me into a dark headspace for a while. Being a daddy’s girl and feeling like I lost a brother was especially difficult. I had to lean into the essence of myself and remember how amazing it is to be alive. Poetry became a tool in helping me channel what I couldn’t quite articulate. It allows us to strip down to the essence of ourselves and look straight into the mirror.

In 2022, my husband and I welcomed the most amazing baby girl into our lives, bringing a new wave of joy I never knew I needed.

I started writing poetry at the age of 7, and soon after, I began turning those poems into songs. My parents often told me that I had been singing since I could talk. One of my favorite childhood memories is performing Country Time Lemonade commercials for family and friends. One day, I hope to own a farmhouse, where I can sit on my front porch sipping sweet iced tea, embracing the serenity of country living.

Though I love uplifting and inspiring others through positive words, I also understand the importance of meeting people in their darkness. Currently, my poetry highlights introspection, whether it be on a thought or feeling. Through my journey, I have learned to “Believe the Unbelievable”. You never know what’s waiting for you around the next corner."
