Introducing Jonathon!

Jonathon Fagen is an exceptionally talented and gifted poet, with remarkable passion and determination to make impactful strides in the world through his craft and this is very obvious in his zeal and efficacy in the world of Literature, specifically poetry speaks for itself. His relatable and aesthetic style of writing is exactly why Jonathon  is now here on the most prestigious Poetry platform in the world. 

Today, we take a  foray into the world of Jonathon with excerpts below detailing his amazing story. 

My name is Jonathon Fagen. I grew up in Fruitland, ID, a small town known for its abundant apple orchards. My Mother, Father, brother, sister, and I all spend our free time adventuring in the great outdoors. The mountains are my home and playground. Growing up, we often visited the Sawtooth Mountain Range for our dose of awe and adrenaline. Exploration is a way of life for my family. Competing has also been a major part of my life since childhood. My Father coached me in the sport of wrestling from the age of five, which is a huge inspiration for my poetry. I retired from wrestling this year after competing in Zagreb, Croatia, and Ufa, Russia, for Team USA at the 2018 and 2021 Greco-Roman World Championships and finishing 6th place at this year’s Senior World Team Trials in Las Vegas, NV. In June, I completed my undergraduate degree, obtaining a BS in Marketing from Linfield University..

My poetry journey started during my Redshirt Sophomore season wrestling for the Arizona State Sun Devils. Writing poetry helped me alleviate the excitement I felt before and after the competition. I felt truly struck by lightning after a traumatic brain injury ended my season shortly before the 2023 Pac-12 conference tournament. To add insult to injury (literally), my head coach asked me to relinquish my scholarship just days after the injury because he did not want me to continue wrestling the next season. Poetry became a safe space for my intense emotions to release.

After I began sharing my poetry, the world of language and literature unfolded in a way I had previously ignored. Prior, most of my reading and writing were directly related to professional obligations. Poetry became a pool of self-reflection with depths reaching past time to the source of creation itself. The Artist’s Way has become my paradise; each line I write is an effort to pay a rent long overdue.

PRISDANTE is a term engineered by me to embody the Artist’s Way. “Pris” is a Latin root meaning “to seize,” and “Dante” meaning “to endure;” when combined, they form a call to action: seize the creative spirit and endure the creative process.
